 WHO IS SHERRON SHEPPARD?

I am a self-taught artist who has learned my craft through reading, attending workshops, watching videos, visiting galleries, and trial and error.  I enjoy trying almost every type of medium available.  Some I like more than others, but I always learn something from each experience that I can apply to my current art projects.  I find that exploring different mediums and styles keeps me inspired and excited about art in general and elevates my work.

My painting interests vary widely.  I love realism art and abstraction art.

Colored pencils are one of my favorite mediums. It allows me to work with control and precision while layering, burnishing, and blending artist quality colored pencil pigments to create fine art paintings.  Each painting involves many hours of design, preparation, and actual application of the colored pencil pigment to complete.   I love that I can lose myself in the process and spend many hours on the details.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is Abstract Painting.  Abstraction is another area that has intrigued me for many years.   Because there aren’t usually recognizable objects in an abstract painting, Abstract Paintings are more about emotion and the artist’s impression of the world around them.  With my Abstract Paintings, I enjoy the freedom to explore color, form, texture, and different marks without worrying about the details.

In addition to being a traditional mediums artist, I am also a Photographer. I began my photographic career photographing weddings with my husband. After retiring from wedding photography, I have transitioned into teaching Photoshop and Corel Painter workshops including teaching at the annual EPNet's Colorado Cowboy and Great American Horse Drive workshops held each year in Craig, Colorado.

I am fortunate enough to have won numerous photographic awards including, California’s (PPC) Photographer of the Year 5 times, in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, and, again, in 2010.  In addition, I was awarded Canon’s Par Excellence Award and the ASP State and Regional Awards.  My image, “A Passage of Time”, scored a perfect score of 100 at the state level and, again, at the national level.  I was awarded PPA’s “Platinum Photographer of the Year” in 2006 and in 2008, 4 Fuji Masterpiece awards, 3 Kodak Gallery Awards, and 7 Judges Awards.  In addition, I am a PPA Certified Photographer and hold a Master of Photography, Master of Electronic Imaging and Photographic Craftsman degrees through the Professional Photographers of America.

Creating handmade jewelry is another one of my passions. I love working with colored wire and natural stones to create unique, one of a kind, designs.  In addition to my wire work, I have created a mixed media line of jewelry.  My “Abstract Art” jewelry pieces combine jewelry design and traditional art mediums together to create a different and truly one of a kind piece of jewelry art.  At least 7 separate steps are required to complete each of Sherron’s mixed media “Abstract Art” jewelry pieces.  Each piece is different and unique and involves many hours of design, preparation, and assemblage to complete.  Many different types of materials go into creating each piece of wearable “Abstract Art” jewelry.
